A handwritten note all for me!!

So I was sitting in my Statistics class (which is not so great) and before class these two kids (men) behind me were talking about how they want to be the "face of BYUI". As in, they want to be the person who is smiling on the front screen of the byui.edu college website.
THIS HAS BEEN MY DREAM. so i turned around and expressed how much i would love to be that person, etc, etc.
Here's the real story: So middle of class, a girl behind me hands me this handwritten note. She said "this is from the bromance over here"
I took it, unfolded it (like jr. high status) and read. This is what it said:
GREG  (his last name was on there and his number, but i wont put it for safety reasons ;) )
"He is the strapping man who sits behind you and to the right in Social Science Statistics. An excellent singer, chef, a man of class, and single!! This man taught Einstien how to theorize, Jordan how to fly, and Bieber how to woo the ladies. He is the single greatest contribution to pop culture of the last century.
Did I mention he's single? Call to find out just how legendary he is!

(me laughing so hard, in the middle of class!)

TRAVIS (same with last name and number)
The man, the myth, the legend. Once the poster child for the Eastern Arizona College Mailer, he now carries his modeling carrier into the stores. Have you ever shopped at Abercrombie & Fitch? Ever wondered who those guys on the bags are? Ever wondered how to contact, date and marry one? Just call!
"I will make all of your wildest dreams come true."

oh goodness. have i told anyone that i love byui?? Im pretty sure these boys will be receiving one super awesome text from me tonight haha.
Such is my life.

Something I would like to share

Ephesians 2:8-9
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."
Woah, was I confused. As I am LDS, we believe that faith without works is dead (James 2:17-18). So when i was shown these two scriptures i was utterly lost. So, i brought it up in my New Testament class to talk about it and see why i was so confused at my own doctrine!
Rule 1: never read just the references you are given, you need context! read the two verses before, and two verses after.
So i did just that.
We are saved through the grace of Jesus Christ, our Savior. However, the works we do qualify ourselves to receive His grace. What are these works you ask? -Repentance -Service to our fellow man -etc.
As Latter-Day Saints, i do think we put more emphasis on "works" than we do "grace". I mean James 2:17-18 is a scripture mastery! So i think it is a good reminder that without grace nothing will ever measure up, ever. Anyways.
As you read on in Ephesians, i do not disagree with anything that is said.
Vs. 7 (see rule #1)- He shows us His grace and His kindness through His atoning sacrifice. Good, yes i agree.
Vs. 8-We are saved through His grace, His atonement if we have faith. "not of yourselves", agree. Without God i would be nothing, without Jesus Christ i would have no future. Agree.
Vs. 9- "not of works, lest any man should boast"--yes i agree. My works alone will not 'guarantee' me a spot in heaven. I will not take any credit for my salvation because it is only because Christ atoned for my personal sins.
Vs. 10 (see rule #1)- We were created by Jesus Christ, He knows me personally. "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto GOOD WORKS, which God hath ordained that we should walk in them" So. basically, God ordains us to walk in good works. meaning, we need to have not only faith, but good works as well, to be given salvation.
By the grace of God we overcome physical death, we ALL will be resurrected, whether we believe or we don't. However, by faith, works (repentance, service, truthful, etc), and the grace of God we will be able to overcome spiritual death.
I just ask: How will you show your faith?

P.S. I believe that the King James Version of the Bible is the most correct translation of the bible.
P.S.S. In no way am I trying to "prove" anyone wrong. I searched this answer out and was able to understand it more fully. This blog post is mainly for the benefit of myself, so i can always understand this subject or if i ever need to remember these specific references.
P.S.S.S. A stranger in that class also handed me a slip of paper that listed all references leading to Faith and Works:
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14
Matthew 7:21-23
Matthew 16:27
Matthew 24:13
Luke 6:46-49
John 7:16-17
John 8:31-32
John 14:15 (duh)
John 15:14
Acts 10:34-35
Romans 2:13
1 Corinthians 9:24
